Today, October 2nd, we celebrate the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels.
It’s a comforting thought for parents to know that a guardian angel protects their little ones from danger. Yet guardian angels are not only for children. Their role is to represent each of us before God, to watch over us always, to aid our prayer, and guide us to good thoughts and works. Since the 17th century the Church has celebrated a feast honoring them in October. Devotion to the angels is an expression of faith in God’s enduring love and providential care extended to each person every day until life’s end. The Printery House offers an 11 x 14 framed print( FP43413) featuring the Evening Prayer of Saint Augustine. The prayer is surrounded by a beautiful fine art border of angels surrounding the Blessed Virgin holding the Christ Child. (The Virgin with Angels by William-Adolphe Bouguereau -1825-1905)
Evening Prayer of Saint Augustine
Watch, Lord, with those
who wake or weep tonight.
Give the angels and saints
charge over those who sleep.
O Lord Jesus Christ,
tend Your sick ones,
rest Your weary ones,
bless Your dying ones,
soothe the suffering ones,
pity all the afflicted ones,
shield the joyful ones,
and all for Your love’s sake.
Amen.
This year The Printery House is also offering a Christmas card (CH9004) that features a glorious angel, a detail from the mural painted by monks of Conception Abbey in the 1890’s, located in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri.
