Let us not close our hearts, let us not lose confidence,
let us never give up: there are no situations
which God cannot change.
If following Jesus seems difficult, don’t be afraid,
trust him, be confident that he is close to you,
he is with you and he will give you
the peace you are looking for
and the strength to live as he would have you do. –Pope Francis
Help one another: this is what Jesus teaches us
and this what I am doing, and doing with all my heart,
because it is my duty. —Pope Francis
The Eighth World Meeting of Families will be held September 22-25 in Philadelphia. “Love is Our Mission: the Family Fully Alive” is the theme chosen by Pope Francis, who will attend the Festival of Families and celebrate Sunday Mass on September 27th.
For this 2015 World Meeting of Families, artist Neilson Carlin was commissioned to create the icon image of the Holy Family. The Printery House offers this striking artwork on a variety of products: as a framed canvas, framed print, Holy Water font, desk plaque, keychain, and mug.
The figures in the painting are layered to indicate the proximity of their relationship to Christ. In the foreground stands the infant Jesus, extending a sign of blessing. Next to him is the Blessed Mother with a gaze slightly beyond her son as she looks toward his passion, fully aware of the trial yet to begin for her family for the sake of all families. Just behind her stands St. Joseph, gently resting a protective hand on his wife. Behind all them stand Mary’s mother and father, St. Anne and St. Joachim.
On the upper left is a depiction of the coat-of-arms of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, where the 2015 World Meeting of Families will convene. On the upper right is the coat-of-arms of His Holiness, Pope Francis. The focal point of the painting, Jesus, reminds us of the necessity of His role as the focal point of our lives.
